Fresh snowfall launches new European ski season
As the world's skiers and snowboarders head to the slopes for the new season, ski resorts across Europe are reporting snowfall of up to a metre in five days. With hundreds of ski resorts opening at the weekend, there promises to be some fantastic early-season ski conditions.
After days of continuous snowfall, the Pyrenees is reporting its best start to the ski season for years. The fresh snow has also been falling in the Alps, with heavy snowfall reported across Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland. Ski resorts in Canada and the USA are also starting the season with fresh powder, 30cm of snow falling in New England before the Thanksgiving holidays.

First snowfall of the season in the Alps and Pyrenees!
Yesterday, snow fell continuously through the day and night, leaving a covering of up to one metre in the central and southern regions of Switzerland. One of the resorts that received the most snow was Engelberg, with nearly half a metre of snow on the streets in the town!

Zermatt reports around 15cm of snow at village level and much more up on the glacier.

Snow is forecast across the French Alps, with up to 75cm expected to fall at Tignes this week The level of snowfall in Chamonix could be as low as 200m, with heavier snowfall above 500m. In the Three Valleys it has snowed heavily overnight and all the resorts have been transformed into a winter wonderland
More snow is forecast across the Austrian resorts and we're currently seeing 67cm of snow on the glacier above Sölden.
Formigal, in the central Spanish Pyrenees, had a covering of 5cm at 1,500m. The slopes of Formigal reach a height of 2,250m, with the resort itself at 1,500m, but the snow was falling at 1,000m and below! Even better, more heavy snow is predicted for Saturday and Sunday.
These early snowfalls are exciting news and, with the ski season fast approaching, it's all the more reason to book your place on the slopes as it looks like we're in for a very white winter season!
