a wonderful, varied ski area and a sophisticated ambience
In a sheltered sunny valley in the Brenta Dolomites, the ski area of Madonna di Campiglio extends to include the neighbouring resorts of Folgarida and Marilleva. The scenery is awesome and the resort is built in attractive traditional style.
Very Italian with several lively bars.
· Don't miss hot chocolate at the Bar Suisse. The Stube bar offers a full selection of beers and the Cantina Suisse for good beer and live music until late.
· Natural ice skating rink · Snowshoe walking · Cross-country skiing · Dog sledding · Night skiing
Many restaurants to suit all pockets including several excellent pizzerias and typical mountain restaurants.
· Pizzas from €5, pasta from €5.50 and €18 for a 3-course meal · Le Roi for delicious pizzas and the Antico Focolare and Piccadilly Pizzeria are excellent restaurants. Don't miss the Spaghetti Haus for huge bowls of pasta.
· Cinema (films in Italian) · Winter marathon for veteran cars (January) · Habsburg Carnival (March)
Verona 2 hrs 45 mins
The nursery slopes are situated at Campo Carlo Magno where there are three drag lifts (which are not included on the lift pass) and gentle, wide open spaces - ideal for first timers.
This area is a paradise for intermediate skiers. There is one cable car and two gondolas which depart from the centre of the resort, the runs link up well at higher levels and several return right down into the village.
There is exciting skiing in amazing scenery. From Monte Spinale the black run Spinale Direttissima goes right down to village level. From Pradalago the long Amazzonia is an enjoyable run through beautiful scenery. Short and steep is the Canalone Miramonti at the end of the 3 Tre World Cup Slalom run and in addition there are further black runs in the Marilleva/Folgarida area.
Madonna di Campiglio is one of the best snowboarding resorts in the Brenta Dolomites. It has played host to various top ISF competitions. Because of this Madonna has a superb half-pipe and funpark, well worth a blast. If jumping's not your thing check out the Spinale area for powder and trees to cut.
